In this podcast, Ruth Nordström outlines her support for Sweden’s ban on the purchase of sexual services.
The Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly is investigating the issue and José Mendes Bota, its General Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, met with Nordström, the President of Scandinavian Human Rights Lawyers, to review the impact of the ban.
Nordström told Mendes Bota that Sweden’s 1999 decision to criminalise the purchase of sexual services had reduced street prostitution and human trafficking in the country and had also helped vulnerable women to escape sex slavery.
